Tooth pick in the shelter

I went to Miyagi-prefecture, suffered by the earthquake and Tsunami disaster, for acupuncture volunteer with a few acupuncturists in August. We visited the evacuation shelter to treat the refugees.

I met a woman who has got knee joint arthritis. She could not sit on the floor in Japanese style, the way to sit with your knees bent and with your toes directly beneath the body.

When I started to cure, she said. ‘’I am scared of acupuncture needle.’’ She was afraid of being pierced because it would be painful.
I said, ‘’No problem. I don’t pierce nor insert the needle.’’ I decided to use the wooden tooth pick as Teishin, a non-pierce needle, to make her relax.

I took her pulse first. Then, I put the pick on Gaikan(TE-5) for tonification point with checking her pulse’s changing properly. I took the pick off in a minute.  Repeated three times.
Second, I took my Hira-Shin, a flat needle which is a magnetic small disk. I stuck one on Kouson(SP-4) and another on Naikan(PC-6) for draining points.
Some ten minutes later, I let her sit in that way and she could do.
I took off the flat needle and finished.

It was Spleen Meridian phenomena and adjusted only used by collateral points.

I am now convinced that non-pierce needles have less sanitary problems in those situations such as in the shelter.

This is the Meridian Technique.

Hakuro

The season of the middle September is called ‘’Hakuro’’ – the white dewdrop.

Rising Yin Qi makes dewdrop cloudy white.  This is the sign that autumn begins.  The breeze becomes cool and refreshing in the morning and in the evening.  It may even become cold this season.

Our body will become autumn body, influenced by Yin Qi.

In Oriental Medicine, we consider Autumn as a season of ‘’Shuren’’,  means harvest, accept, stock, or fasten and close.  It also means our pores close.  They have been opening to sweat in summer, and need to be closed in autumn.  If you keep sweating and stay wet, you will easily get sick or unwell, especially related to water, like swelling, diarrhea, etc.
It is very important to wipe out your sweat.

Over intake of fat may shut or block you rpores.  It prevents to let sweat out and your skin may be over-dried condition like desert.

Go-koku, LI-4, is an effective acu point for these desease.
